PRP Treatment for Hair Loss

If you are living with the early signs of hair loss, PRP (platelet rich plasma) is a groundbreaking approach to restoring healthy hair growth.

PRP has been in use in the medical field for decades for wound healing. It is now being implemented in the field of aesthetics for hair rejuvenation. PRP has been found to be a powerful regenerative approach, triggering the follicles to produce thicker, healthier strands of hair. If you are experiencing excessive shedding and your hair appears to be thinner, finer, and will not grow to its former length, PRP hair rejuvenation may the perfect treatment.

What is PRP?

PRP is a component harvested from your own blood. It has a high concentration of platelets, called growth factors, that assist in blood clotting and trigger cell growth. The tissue growth factors in PRP have been found to be able to restore healthy function to hair follicles that have begun the process of going dormant, the first stage of balding.

How is PRP made?

The process is simple and pain-free, performed at our private clinic in Washington DC. A standard blood draw is performed, and the sample then processed in a centrifuge to separate the plasma from the red blood cells. The PRP can now be injected into the scalp in the areas where the hair follicles are going dormant to promote healthy hair growth.

Am I a candidate for PRP hair rejuvenation?

PRP treatments are performed to resolve several hair loss problems, including:

  • Thinning hair
  • Hair strands have become finer and shorter
  • Hair loss from tight hair styles
  • Early stage of hair loss
  • Androgenetic alopecia (hereditary hair thinning in men and women)
  • As an added procedure in hair transplant treatments

What is a PRP hair treatment like to experience?

This treatment is not difficult to experience. It involves a blood draw, after which the PRP is injected into the areas of the scalp that need help. The entire procedure takes about 1.5 hours to complete. You will need several treatments, spaced about one month apart. One of the advantages of PRP hair restoration is that the PRP is created from your own blood, with no risk of rejection or side effects, other than a slight tenderness at the injection sites, which quickly disappears.

What is the recovery from NeoGraft like?

When injected into the scalp, the hair follicles are stimulated, promoting new hair growth, and healthier, thicker hair strands. If you are seeing the early signs of hair loss, with excessive shedding and thinner hair strands, taking action now with PRP hair rejuvenation can be an effective way to ward off further hair loss. The earlier the treatment is performed, the better the outcome.

Benefits of PRP hair treatments

The benefits of PRP hair treatments include:

  • Non-invasive
  • Non-surgical
  • Pain-free
  • No downtime
  • No side effects
  • Natural
  • Promotes natural hair growth
  • Triggers the body’s regenerative processes

What is the recovery time from PRP hair treatments?

The procedure does not involve any recovery time, and you are free to return to your usual activities immediately after treatment. You may have a slight redness at the injection site, or minor swelling as you could expect with any injection, which typically fades quickly. You can shower, shampoo, and condition your hair as usual 12 hours after undergoing treatment, with no restrictions on exercise. Do not color or perm hair for at least three days after treatment.

What are the causes of hair loss in women?

Women often struggle with hair loss, particularly as they get older. Called “female pattern baldness,” once thick, healthy hair begins to lose its strength and thickness, with the hairs thinner, breaking more easily, and often leading to a thinner look at the hair part. Hair loss can be triggered by factors such as poor nutrition, stress, some medications, illness, haircare treatments and products, and heredity. The hair loss in women is generally all over the scalp, rather than in specific areas, although this can occur.

What are the causes of hair loss in men?

Men suffer hair loss due to the production of DHT (dihydrotestosterone), a hormone produced by the body which causes the hair follicles to become thinner, eventually leading to balding. This problem affects a large percentage of men, who have inherited balding through genetics. In men, the balding is characterized by losing hair at the crown, a receding hairline, and at the temples. In the early stages of balding, PRP hair treatments have been proven to be an effective way to slow hair loss in men.

Regenerative treatment for hair loss: PRP

PRP treatments have are an effective way to restore healthy hair growth to hair follicles that are producing low quality hair. The hair on your scalp may begin to appear less healthy, dull in color, and will not grow to the length it did in the past. The PRP injections work to trigger the body to repair the hair follicles and begin to produce thicker, healthier strands of hair and slow hair loss. The treatment effective for men and women in the early stages of hair loss, and as an added procedure in hair transplant treatments.

Practice Policy Update Regarding COVID-19 View Update Virtual Consultation

Coronavirus (Covid-19) Update

Updated April 2nd, 2020

After serious consideration and in line with the recommendations of our State and Centers for Disease Control (CDC), we are closing the practice until April 24th.

Your health and well-being is our primary concern and we want to do our part to make sure that you are protected.

Effective immediately the following will occur:

  • All procedures and in-person consultations will be suspended until at least April 24th.
  • The office will be minimally or remotely staffed, and we will see our urgent post-surgical follow-ups.
  • We are instituting Virtual Consultations for all potential patients.
  • Many surgeries are rescheduled and some of the ones that are committed will occur on a per case basis.
  • No patient will have any financial recourse for rescheduling their procedures.

We are constantly updating our services and staffing according to the local and national recommendations and will always place your health and well-being as our top priority.

We continue to exercise all the latest recommendations that are handed down by the CDC. These include:

  • Staff have been fully informed and trained to understand the disease process and its modes of transmission.
  • All staff, vendors and ancillary personnel are being asked to refrain from coming to this office if they have any signs or symptoms of a cold or an upper respiratory tract infection.
  • Every patient is also being asked to refrain from coming to the office if they have any symptoms.
  • We are asking our patients about any pertinent travel history.
  • Hand-washing continues to be the most important mode of prevention. Although it is a part of what we constantly do, now we are doing so with heightened vigilance and attention.
  • We have instituted a “no handshakes no hug” policy for now.
  • We have asked all vendors that any unnecessary meetings are canceled until further notice.
  • Any exit and entrance from our office are followed by a protocol of changing shoes, scrubs and sanitization.
  • As we are an accredited medical facility, we are constantly sanitizing all surfaces. We have now vamped that up and our routine, multiple times a day, wiping down all surfaces, desks, door handles, keyboards and restroom facilities. We have assigned a person that does so on a constant basis.

Although Covid-19 is a serious issue, we strongly believe that it will pass and hopefully make our infrastructure and our ability to deal with pandemics in this Country even better than it currently is. We are monitoring this situation on a real-time basis and will not sit back until we know that we have done everything possible to avoid unnecessary exposure.
