Botox & Fillers

Facial rejuvenation is now better than ever before with the advance of BOTOX and dermal fillers. These injectables can be used to correct the signs of aging for a more pleasing and youthful facial appearance. Cosmetic treatments with BOTOX and fillers can smooth lines and wrinkles, arch the brow, add volume, and even non-surgically reshape the nose.

Dr. Christopher C. Chang is a Washington, D.C. plastic surgeon specializing in surgical and non-surgical treatments for the face. He takes a holistic approach to facial rejuvenation and enhancement, and takes the whole person into account when planning any treatment. If your face is showing signs of aging or you have facial features you would like to improve, schedule a consultation with Dr. Chang to find out what BOTOX and fillers can do for your appearance.

What Is the Difference Between BOTOX and Dermal Fillers?

BOTOX and fillers are both effective, injectable, anti-aging treatments that work differently and have different uses. There is no need to choose between them – BOTOX and fillers can be used in combination to produce beautiful, subtle, yet powerful results. While BOTOX treats wrinkles caused by muscles of facial expression, fillers smooth out fine lines, wrinkles and plump the skin. Together they provide soft, appealing, natural-looking results that rejuvenate and restore a youthful appearance to the face.

Dermal Filler Uses

Injectable fillers can be used to treat a range of cosmetic and aging issues. Many dermal fillers contain hyaluronic acid – a substance naturally produced by the body that increases moisture, retains collagen, and promotes elasticity and flexibility in the tissues. Because it is a naturally occurring molecule already in your skin, it is very well tolerated and allergic reaction is extremely rare.

As we age, the body and face produce less collagen and hyaluronic acid, which can cause wrinkle formation, loss of elasticity and skin sagging. Deep lines and creases begin to appear, including nasolabial folds (“smile lines” from the nose to the mouth corners) and marionette lines (from corners of the mouth to the chin). Dermal filler injections can fill in the spaces between the lines and plump up the skin for a fresher, younger look.

Dermal filler injections can also be used to increase volume in other areas of the face. Certain types of fillers can be used for chin and cheek augmentation, nose reshaping, plumping up the lips, and even filling out the backs of the hands and chest to smooth the area, and make it appear younger and more appealing overall.

How does BOTOX work & what are its uses?

Botulinum toxin (BOTOX) is a purified natural protein used to temporarily relax facial muscles to prevent and reduce wrinkles. When wrinkles appear in the skin, BOTOX can be injected, targeting only the specific muscles underlying the area. The muscles gradually reach optimal relaxation within approximately 10 days after BOTOX injections. This reduces wrinkles while preserving your ability to convey your emotions through facial expression. Above and beyond how the product works, how and where it is injected is of utmost importance in the procedure, and BOTOX should only be injected by a highly-skilled facial expert so the results are beautiful, natural, and safe.

BOTOX can be used to effectively:

  • Reduce frown lines between the eyebrows
  • Smooth horizontal lines on the forehead
  • Minimize crow’s feet
  • Reduce lip lines
  • Lift the forehead
  • Prevent the onset of wrinkling
